Q&A with Ally Hall from the Kentucky Department of Agriculture
We are excited to welcome a new face to the AgVets team! Ally Hall with the Kentucky Department of Agriculture joined the team in December and was kind enough to answer a few questions.
Q: What is your role within KDA and how long have you been with the organization?
A: I have been with KDA since mid-December. I am the Program Coordinator for Farmers’ Markets, CSAs, and assist with the Homegrown by Heroes campaign.
Q: What are you most excited about as this program continues?
A: I am looking forward to visiting Ft. Campbell and informing service members about the CSP internship program.
Q: What role will KDA play within the grant program?
A: KDA wants to support by attending veteran’s org meetings, staying informed on opportunities to connect our producers or new farmers, and we would love to help get the Farmers Veteran Coalition state chapter started.
Q: Are there other programs KDA has that veterans can participate in?
A: If you aren’t already familiar, our Homegrown by Heroes marketing campaign is a part of our KY Proud campaign, but specifically with veteran farmers. Any active, former, or retired service member is encouraged to apply. The HBH logo on farmer’s agriculture-based products for sale helps consumers recognize who and from where their dollar is supporting. Buyers gravitate toward buying local and supporting veterans!
Q: How can we stay up-to-date with new initiatives and programs from KDA?
A: Alerts are on our social media pages, such as Facebook under “Kentucky Proud”. Resources are available on our websites as well: The Kentucky Department of Agriculture (kyagr.com) and Welcome to Kentucky Proud
