(CLOSED) Job Opening: 2 Business Development Assistants/Specialists (one with Emphasis on Marketing)
The Kentucky Center for Agriculture and Rural Development has two openings for individuals to work with agricultural and rural-based businesses seeking KCARD assistance. These positions will be designated as either Business Development Assistant or Specialist depending on level of experience and expertise. One of the positions will have an emphasis on helping businesses with marketing needs and will handle KCARD communications.
KCARD is a non-profit organization that works with farmers, farmers markets, agritourism operations, value-added operations, cooperatives, meat processing facilities, grain handling operations, horticultural businesses, and many other agricultural-related businesses operating in Kentucky.
KCARD employees have flexible scheduling options available.
Duties:
Meet with producers, business owners, and organizations interested in KCARD services to gather information on their status, assess needs, and determine appropriate courses of action in coordination with KCARD team;
Serve as a resource for farmers and agribusinesses and provide business development assistance;
Conduct marketing research and review financial statements and projections;
Work with businesses to draft business and marketing plans and financial projections; and
Other duties as assigned.
Marketing Emphasis: In addition to the duties mentioned above, one position will be focused on providing assistance on subjects related to marketing and communications.
Qualifications:
Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) and excellent interpersonal skills;
Attention to detail;
Strong work ethic with a self-motivated nature;
Knowledge of Kentucky agriculture and the agricultural and food sectors;
Strong analytical skills;
Understanding of economics, marketing, and business structures;
Undergraduate degree in relevant field (advanced degree or significant experience preferred);
Experience with agricultural businesses and managing projects;
Experience with computers and common software, including Microsoft Excel; and
Valid driver’s license and access to private vehicle.
Location: Flexible within state of Kentucky, with significant in-state travel expected (as public health requirements allow with regards to COVID-19). Having the ability to locate in areas currently underserved by KCARD staff is desirable, but not required.
