Q&A with Abby Clas: Looking for Research
Q: What is your role at KCARD?
A: I’m the Research Assistant here at KCARD, which means that I help staff find the resources they need to complete feasibility studies, business plans, and other projects!
Q: How did your previous experiences help in your current role?
A: I recently graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in Agricultural Economics and have been doing research online for a while now. Doing multiple research projects while in school, I’ve learned how to effectively find information that is relevant to our clients’ needs.
Q: What resources do you use the most?
A: I use the USDA’s Census of Agriculture most often. They have data available for each county that shows how much land they have in production and what it’s used for. Aside from that, I use extension publications that universities around the country publish.
Q: What is your favorite part of working at KCARD?
A: I work mainly on the internal side of KCARD, so my favorite part of working here is our staff meetings! Behind the scenes, our staff works diligently to get each client what they need and are super supportive of each other!
Q: What is your favorite place to get local food in Lexington?
A: Wilson’s Grocery & Meat! I think they have the best ribeyes in town and have local products ranging from meat to cut flowers to baked goods!
