Nestled in between the small towns of Tompkinsville and Gamaliel in southcentral Kentucky, Patterson’s Butcher Shop is a recently opened custom processing business and meat retail store owned by Jorden Patterson Emmert. They offer custom slaughter and a wide variety of retail cuts, including beef, pork, lamb, goat, and ready to cook meals.
Jorden comes from a long line of home butchers, which is where her journey in meat processing began. “We’ve always processed our own hogs and I thought everyone should have the opportunity to try my dad’s sausage, so I started researching starting a USDA facility in 2020,” Jorden says. She also saw an opportunity to provide another revenue option for all the local livestock farmers in the area.
Jorden was referred by the local Farm Service Agency office to work with KCARD on a business plan for Patterson’s Butcher Shop. “Working with KCARD 100% allowed me to get the loan that I needed to get started. It was a blessing to have someone to talk to and help with the whole process,” Jorden says.
Patterson’s recently held a grand opening event with over 100 people in attendance to support the new business. Looking to the future, Patterson’s plans to seek USDA certification and continue offering fresh local meats to the community.
